In 2003, Neil started the walk with his sister, Anne and his mother, Margaret. Margaret died in April 2011 and Anne died in June 2011. Neil is now walking alone.

This part of France is flat and agricultural. It is not the most interesting walking area espicially as the population density increases towards Marseille. The Saturday walk suffered from areas where the walking would have been delightful but they were fenced off to military standards to protect the last remaining wild areas from the ravages of the humans. This is likely to get worse past Marseille and towards Nice and Cannes.

Mon 21^stFeb 2011 28.2 km	Montpellier to Lunel Train, Walk, Train. The first 5km was interesting but not pleasant. Then traffic free lanes and canal site paths were used. Lunel was small enough and the traffic was light so it was nice. A nice sunny February day.
Tue 22^ndFeb 2011 24.5 km	Lunel to Générac Train, Walk, Bus. The route included a disused railway, quiet country lanes and a section off road. The railway was overgrown so field edges were used instead.
Wed 23^rdFeb 2011 30.3 km	Générac to Arles Bus, Walk, Train. A very nice walk on quiet roads and lanes including the northern edge of the Camargue Natural Park.
Thu 24^thFeb 2011 19.5 km	Arles to Saint Martin de Crau Train, Walk, Bus, Walk, Train. The traffic decreased after leaving Arles and the roads were very quiet. It was peaceful farm land.
Fri 25^thFeb 2011 19.3 km	Saint Martin de Crau to Miramas Train, Train, Walk, Train, Train. Walked parallel with the railway for a long way including some easy off road stretches. The main road into Miramas was busier but the main problem was a strong wind.
Sat 26^thFeb 2011 28.3 km	Miramas to Rognac Potentially nice routes were blocked forcing main roads to be used. Later all the roads were main but bearable. The pedestrian approach to Rognac is as bad as it gets but luckily the Saturday winter traffic was light.
Sun 27^thFeb 2011	Nîmes to London, Luton, then Beccles A pleasant 14 km walk from Nîmes to the airport with a routine flight and drive home afterwards.
